Preparing for a Journey
As we prepare for our upcoming Oct. trip to Haiti (www.fameworld.org), we thought we should step out of our comfort zone. We are doing radical things like walk the dog and live on a budget. So unsettling. All the missionaries told us was that whatever you thought you'd experience, God would take you and flip you and your expectations upside down. That's hard to prepare for , you know? Recently I went to King's Island amusement Park to get "uncomfortable". I decided to start with the Avatar in Nicklelodeon land. I ended up at the Flight of Fear. I decided to do it with my eyes open. Scary. I was amazed at the speed, the twisted metal and the fact that I wasn't dead. I kept thinking "What a stupid way to die!" "I am almost through this ride" "Hey I am really getting scared!" Fear gripped me, and I remembered what a Haiti missionary quoted this week from 2 Timothy 1:7 "I have not given you a spirit of fear!" I calmed down , the ride seemed to slow , and then the ride did an absolute and unexpected 360 degrees. The missionaries are right. God will flip you upside down. I had no fear, but more humor and validation. I think I'll go into Haiti with my eyes wide open- ready to be flipped.
